Initial Consultation in Aberdeen
Family Law Advice You Can Trust – In Aberdeen or Online
At XK Family Law Solicitors Aberdeen, we offer in-depth initial consultations to help you understand your legal rights, assess your options, and determine the best way forward in your family law matter.
Whether you’re dealing with separation and divorce, cohabitation disputes, or child contact and residence issues, our experienced solicitors will provide you with a clear, strategic way forward.
Where and How We Meet
Your initial consultation can take place:
- In person at our Aberdeen office:
1 Marischal Square, Broad Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1BL. - Online via Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, or an online platform you prefer.
- By telephone on 01224 012 913 or 07776 886 234.
The consultation can last up to one hour and is completely confidential.
What to Expect in Your Consultation
Our aim is to give you a full understanding of your legal position – clearly explaining the law and how to navigate it. During your consultation, your family law solicitor will ask relevant detailed questions about your situation. You won’t need exact financial figures or official statements at this stage. General estimates are fine to begin with, which will give us an over view of your case. More precise information can be gathered later.
We tailor every consultation to the legal issue you’re facing.
Separation, Divorce & Financial Provision
If your enquiry relates to divorce or financial provision, your solicitor will:
- Review your assets and liabilities to determine the overall matrimonial assets including property, pensions, savings, loans etc.
- Review your rights and and arguments, and your Ex’s rights and arguments regarding matrimonial property.
- Discuss your potential entitlement based on current Scottish family law.
- Provide an overview of possible financial outcomes, including a rough estimate of your share of the assets (based on what you tell us).
- Recommend the most cost-effective route forward, including options for negotiation, agreement, or court action.
Cohabitation Rights & Disputes
If you are separating from a partner or dealing with financial matters as a cohabitant, your solicitor will:
- Assess your potential claim under Section 28 or 29 of the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006.
- Explain how the court deals with economic advantage/economic disadvantage, contributions to property, or other claims.
- Help you understand what evidence you’ll need and how we’ll approach your case.
- Provide you with an outline of your overall claim.
Child Contact & Child Residence Matters
For cases involving child contact, child residence, or child welfare, we will:
- Evaluate your situation in light of current Scottish child law.
- Discuss any urgent issues (e.g. contact or residential disputes, school disputes, safety concerns, abuse etc).
- Provide insight into how the courts might view your case, based on our extensive experience with Child Welfare Hearings.
- Offer practical recommendations for next steps – including;
(1) negotiation (2) an application for a Section 11 court Order, or (3) an emergency Court Order, if needed.
After Your Consultation
Once the meeting is complete:
- We’ll contact you by email within a day or so providing you with details on how our fees work and confirm the potential options discussed.
- Thereafter, you’ll be able to contact your solicitor by email or phone, or book further meetings or provide further instructions as required.
We are always upfront and transparent about legal costs, timelines, and expectations. No surprises – just sound advice and support.
